The Sun exclusively revealed how Ben will soon be revealed as Steve’s secret brother after his dad Jim McDonald had an affair with his mum Maggie back in the 70s.

But Coronation Street isn’t the first soap to tackle incest – as these shocking storylines from other soaps prove.

Hollyoaks

The Blake family have always been a little off but nothing quite proves it like twins Dodger and Sienna Blake in the Channel 4 soap.

Separated at birth the pair found each other as teenagers without realising they were twins and one things to led another and baby Nico was born.

However after the pair reunited and discovered their twin-status, twisted Sienna kidnapped her brother and tried to seduce him.

Nico then grew up to be a serial killer and tried to kill her mother, before dying herself – twice.

EastEnders

Back in the naughties, Walford’s Lauren Branning slept with her own cousin Joey.

To be fair to the alcoholic, she didn’t know hunky Joey was her cousin at that time – but she did after.

And then continued to know as they extensively dated until his exit from Walford.

Given her dad bedded his own son’s wife, it’s hardly surprising that Lauren thought family was fair game.

Brookside

In most soaps incest is taboo and a storyline that ends but not on Brookside.

When siblings Nat and Georgia were revealed to be sleeping together things quickly took a strange twist.

The viewer backlash was such that they were swiftly written out – leaving the Close to go and live as husband and wife somewhere no-one knew them.

The only relationship casualty was their own parents who split due to the stress of well the obvious.

Neighbours

Teatime on the BBC used to be very different Aussie soap Neighbours was in the slot.

But Auntie was not impressed when Lucy Robinson slept with her half brother Glen Donnelly – and banned the episode.

The storyline aired down under but not in the UK until repeats years later on UK Gold.

Lucy went on to make appearances in the soap right up until the end this year – but her bonking her brother was wisely ignored.

Emmerdale

 

The other soaps might have the odd ancestral storyline but with Emmerdale it’s basically a pre-requisite.

With half the village being Dingles, you’d be hard pushed to find one who hasn’t dipped their toe into the family lake, so to speak.

The family tree is less a tree, more a withered branch grown into a loop by a deranged gardener.

Charity Dingle sits at the top of the family branch – bedding both cousins Cain and Marlon.

While Marlon could have been the father of her son Noah, Cain did become the father of Charity’s daughter Debbie.

And Debbie didn’t take long to follow in the family footsteps by sleeping with her own cousin Eli.

Charity also slept with Caleb – Cain’s brother – and then Cain slept with Caleb’s wife Ruby – but as she’s only a Dingle by marriage we can all breathe a sigh of relief.
