Coronation Street updates on fan favourite Dr Harper- but he’s not returning

Coronation Street issued an update on a guest character this week, who became popular with fans very quickly when he was last in the show.
We met Doctor Vincent Harper (John Hollingworth) in January. He was introduced to us as the surgeon assisting in Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) giving birth to her baby girl.
The doctor was replacing Shona’s original surgeon, who was stuck abroad. With Shona and David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) not knowing Vincent, he had to work hard to quickly gain their trust.
Vincent and his team delivered the couple’s baby safely and Shona and David were so grateful, they named their little girl after him.
Doctor Harper wasn’t in Weatherfield for very long, but he had a huge impact on the Corrie audience, and many hoped he would return as a permanent character. Sadly though, it was confirmed shortly after Vincent’s scenes that there were no plans for him to come back.
This week, David and Shona were back at the hospital ahead of the operation that removed Harper’s tumour from her neck, which she was born with. As they watched staff get her ready, David revealed to Shona that Doctor Harper was still in touch and showing his support.

‘I got a text from her namesake’, David revealed.
‘That’s really sweet’, Shona added.
David joked: ‘Dead brainy surgeon and he’s also really thoughtful and nice. I mean if I didn’t like him so much, I’d hate him!’.
As they chatted about Shona wanting to send Doctor Harper a cheese and onion pie and how ‘aggressively northern’ that was, Shona pondered over how she wished the surgeon was back at Weathy General today to perform Harper’s op.
David reassured his wife and said Doctor Daya would do a great job, and that Harper would be ‘absolutely fine’.
