A Coronation Street legend’s funeral will be held in upcoming scenes but it seemingly sparks concerns for Maggie Driscoll amid the tease of a family ‘bombshell’.

Next week in the ITV soap, Steve McDonald invites Ben Driscoll to his dad, Jim McDonald’s, funeral, admitting he could do with some moral support, leaving his best mate, and fellow cab driver, Tim Metcalfe jealous as he points out that he at least knew Jim, unlike Ben.

But when Ben explains he’s going to Jim’s funeral to lend Steve some moral support, Maggie’s disparaging. Meanwhile, Steve’s nervous as he sets off with neither his mother, Liz, nor his brother, Andy, attending, as they say they washed their hands of Jim a long time ago.

With the funeral over, the mourners gather in the Rovers Return and as Declan and Davey, two of Jim’s army mates, regale Steve with tales of Jim’s past, a sour-faced Maggie reminds Ben that he’s got a hospital appointment in the morning and suggests it’s time they were making tracks.
It comes as fans have been theorising that Ben and Steve could secretly be half-brothers, with those following the long-runnin
g show convinced that Maggie had an affair with Jim, leading to Ben’s arrival.
While the possible twist hasn’t been confirmed by Corrie, Ben actor Aaron McCusker recently suggested that the Driscolls need to brace th

emselves for even more chaos as he teased that the family will be delivered some life-changing news in the very near future.
“There’s a big bombshell that’s about to be dropped that is going to rock us all to our core,” the soap star recently told Inside Soap. “It has the potential to bring us all closer together or the potential to tear us completely apart. That’s all I can say, and you’ll have to wait, but it’ll be coming very soon…”

Meanwhile, Jim’s funeral comes after Steve was given the news of his father’s death during Monday’s (March 2) visit to Weatherfield. In the episode, Steve received a phone call informing him that his dad had passed away, leaving him upset that he didn’t get to say goodbye.
After, he was comforted in the Rovers by his girlfriend Cassie Plummer, who he didn’t realise was planning to pop the question when het got the news, as well as his daughter Amy and ex-wife Tracy Barlow. Steve attempted to drown his sorrows and as Maggie watched on, Amy noted that Jim had been struggling with illness for a period of time.
The off-screen death comes after actor Charlie Lawson confirmed that his character’s death was going to occur off screen. He originally joined Corrie as Jim back in 1989 and was last seen on the cobbles back in 2018.
