ITV soap Emmerdale took a cheeky swipe at Coronation Street just moments into Thursday’s (December 25) hour-long Christmas Day specia.

In the festive episode, Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) disclosed that her other half Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) had gifted her a murder mystery experience for Christmas.

Speaking to Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) and Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley), Chas said: “He got me a cardi and a murder mystery thing.”

When Aaron enquired: “Where do you have to go for that?”, his mother responded: “I dunno, some hotel in Weatherfield.”

Her son questioned: “Where?”, to which Chas answered: “God knows.”, reports the Daily Star.

Aaron subsequently turned to his partner Robert, asking: “Weatherfield?”, with Robert responding: “Never heard of it.”

Viewers will recognise Weatherfield as the fictional working-class Greater Manchester town where Corrie is set, and the playful exchange forms part of the lead-up to the forthcoming Corriedale crossover episode.

It was announced earlier this year that both ITV soaps would be collaborating on a crossover for the very first time.

Whilst specific storyline details have remained closely guarded since the reveal, ITV has now unveiled a trailer showcasing a dramatic multi-vehicle collision.

A frantic Robert Sugden, portrayed by Ryan Hawley, calls out for Aaron Dingle, played by Danny Miller, in the darkness alongside Joe Tate, played by Ned Porteous.

This episode marks the beginning of a new era for soap viewing in 2026. Corriedale is a celebration of the soap genre and will introduce ITV’s new power hour scheduling pattern for Coronation Street and Emmerdale.

Half-hour episodes of each programme will be broadcast, with Emmerdale airing at 8pm and Coronation Street following at 8.30pm from 2026.
