It has been confirmed that Amy’s (Ellie Mulvaney) grandfather Jim McDonald (Charlie Lawson) sadly passes away in upcoming scenes of the ITV soap leaving her dad Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) and the rest of the family heartbroken.

In a shocking twist, Steve is reportedly set to find out that his dad cheated on his mum Liz McDonald (Beverley Callard) with new Rovers Return owner Maggie Driscoll (Pauline McLynn) resulting in the birth of her son Ben Driscoll (Aaron McCusker).

The Driscoll family moved to Weatherfield in October after Ben bought the pub as a surprise for partner Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) with financial help from his mother.

The landlord believes that Alan Driscoll, who has never been seen and fans know was killed by Maggie, is his father, however, it will reportedly be revealed in the near future that Maggie had an affair with Jim decades ago leading to the arrival of Ben.

Steve has been growling close to new pal Ben, who is the father of Ollie (Raphael Akuwudike) and Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale), in recent scenes so the bombshell is set to send shockwaves through the cobbles.

During Thursday’s (February 26) episode, which is available to watch on ITVX, Steve was seen waking up hungover in the backroom of the Rovers and chef Ollie offered to make him a cooked breakfast.

Steve’s daughter arrived thinking her dad would be ready to take her on their pre-planned shopping trip but the cabbie insisted he needed to eat his fry up first.

Later in the episode, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) seemingly called things off with Ollie after a brief fling and he didn’t waste time shairing a flirty exchange with Amy as she came into the pub for a drink.

However, Amy is Steve’s daughter and Ollie is Ben’s son meaning that the pair are half-cousins and their potential romance could led to some “awkward” conversations when the truth is finally revealed.

A third person said: “Maggie wanted to keep Ollie so far away from Lauren, let’s see what she says of the potential Ollie and Amy pairing given the recent twist about Steve’s dad being Ben’s dad.”

Fans will have to wait and see if sparks fly between the pair before they learnt that their dads are half-brothers.
