Coronation Street appeared to be setting up a new romance for Ollie Driscoll and Amy Barlow this week, as the pair shared a few flirty exchanges. But will their sudden closeness prompt a life-changing revelation that will rock both families?

Recent episodes of the ITV soap saw the youngsters’ respective dads, Ben and Steve, bonding over their Irish heritage. Since then, the fast friends have been spending a lot of time together – much to Maggie’s annoyance.

Last night, a hungover Steve was recovering in The Rovers after getting drunk with Ben, and when Amy came to pick him up, there was a brief moment of chemistry between her and Ollie.

Their spark was noticed by barmaid Lauren, who encouraged Amy to pursue the romance despite her jealousy. However, it’s unlikely that the pair will get the blessing of Ollie’s grandmother Maggie.

The soap is reportedly setting up a shocking new storyline which will explain Maggie’s recent behaviour towards Steve. Viewers have already speculated that Maggie’s historic affair in the ’80s was with Jim McDonald – Steve’s estranged (Irish) dad.

If this is the case, Steve and Ben could potentially be half-brothers, making Ollie and Amy cousins. Will their budding romance force Maggie to reveal the truth? And how will the two families recover from the huge news?

Aaron McCusker, who plays Ben, recently teased that a “bombshell” revelation could potentially tear the Driscolls “completely apart”, adding that it would “rock us all to our core”.

“It has the potential to bring us all closer together or the potential to tear us completely apart,” said the actor. “That’s all I can say, and you’ll have to wait, but it’ll be coming very soon…”

Though we don’t know the exact details, the actor hinted that it will impact Maggie and Ben’s relationship the most.

“Ben loves Maggie to bits,” he explained. “But there are certain times when he could absolutely kill her, and certainly the storyline that we’re shooting at the minute, that is going to come out…”
