Those who follow the ITV soap will recall that early last year, Rob made a reappearance in Carla’s life after his son, Bobby Crawford, paid him a visit and told him Carla was ill, and need of a kidney transplant.
Rob ended up becoming Carla’s donor, but it was all part of a bigger plan for him to do a runner from prison, with the help and support of prison guard, Mandy, who he had entered a relationship with.

After they kidnapped Carla and left her health in a fragile state, the convicted murderer ended up going on the run for weeks before his made his return to Weatherfield for one final showdown with his sister, and her partner DS Lisa Swain.
After seeking ex-fiancee Tracy Barlow’s help, Rob threatened to shoot Carla and then himself before they were both surprised by Lisa’s arrival, who couldn’t help but intervene having called the situation in to her colleague DC Kit Green.
The then-new couple were then trapped by an armed and dangerous Rob, whose demands and behaviour was becoming more erratic as time went on. Not willing to wait any longer, Lisa took her chance to disarm Rob but it ended up in a tussle for the gun before a shot rang out.
Armed police quickly stormed the house and despite everything, Carla jumped to protect Rob. With him no longer armed, Kit arrested Rob for false imprisonment and possession of a firearm, while it was confirmed that Lisa and Carla weren’t physically hurt in the drama, but Lisa’s daughter caught in the crossfire.

Now it’s been revealed that Carla and Lisa will get a reminder about their ordeal with Rob, thanks to the arrival of his daughter. Corrie fans were recently delighted to hear the sound of wedding bells ringing in the distance, with Carla surprising Lisa around Valentine’s Day by booking their wedding date, which has been confirmed as April 23.
But it’s since been revealed that before they get the chance to say ‘I Do’, the two women will find themselves in another situation, this time the unexpected arrival being Carla’s baby niece, Connie.
While Mandy hasn’t been seen since discovering Rob didn’t really love her but was using her for his own gain, in next week’s run of the ITV soap, Carla opens the door and is shocked to find a baby in a car seat on the doorstep. Lisa goes after the woman hurrying away, only to discover the baby is Connie, the daughter of Rob and Mandy.
The baby’s grandmother explains that she needs them to look after Connie while she’s in hospital, but Carla refuses point blank, despite Lisa spelling out that she’s Connie’s auntie and without her she’ll end up in care.
While the storyline is still days away from unfolding on-screen, Corrie fans have been wondering if Connie’s stay will become permanent, and think they know why that will be the case.

@liiarla said: “And then when the grandma dies and they have to decide whether they want to keep the baby and the can’t bring themselves to give it up.” @midnightswarla echoed: “Grandmas gonna die right? And #swarla will keep the baby permanently until Mandy is released? #corrie.”
Or some fear it won’t be their decision if Connie does have to leave. @luciferseve theorised: “1. Grandma [dies], Swarla has a new baby 2. As soon as Carla gets attached, the baby is taken away. Which results in Swarla wanting to adopt 3. Connie turns out to NOT be Rob’s baby.”
@Lozza479761 added: “So we know Carla isn’t keen at first about the baby, are we going to see her talk about baby Barlow. She then comes round to the idea, so is she going to get close to her only to have to give her back. It’s going to be heartbreaking isn’t it. #swarla #Corrie.”
